Lipsey’s was formed in 1953 as a wholesale hunting and fishing distributor. Originally named S&S Wholesale, the name was changed 40 years later to Lipsey’s in 1993. The Lipsey family has been in the retail firearms and sporting goods business since the mid 1940s. Joe Lipsey Sr. and his uncle Morris Steinberg started the family business, a fur and hide trading company, in 1943. In 1949, the business expanded into firearms, ammo and hunting and fishing supplies. Steinberg’s continued to grow and expand product lines throughout the 1960’s.
Today, Lipsey’s is one of the largest independently owned, single location firearms distributors in the country. Lipsey’s is proud of the tradition it has established, winning numerous awards for industry leadership. In 1932 Davidson’s opened its doors as a wholesaler of used auto parts in Greensboro, NC and over the long history of the company, it also supplied general hunting and fishing supplies, consumer electronics, special liquidation purchases, and general sporting goods.
